An AI deep-work coach that watches your calendar + browser tabs and protects 90-minute focus blocks before you're tempted to break them.
The problem
Solo founders lose four to six hours a week to context-switching they don't even notice. Calendar tools say "focus time 9-11" but you still answer Slack at 9:42. By Wednesday, the deep work that was supposed to ship the v0.3 release got crowded out by twelve micro-decisions, and Friday standup turns into an apology to yourself. The problem isn't intent or willpower — it's that nothing is actually watching the boundary the way a chief-of-staff would. Block-scheduling apps protect the calendar slot, but the slot leaks. Browser-blockers nuke productivity because they kill legitimate research too. What's missing is a coach that knows the difference between "opening Twitter to procrastinate" and "opening Twitter to find the thread you saved last week," and that intervenes when it sees the pattern, not after the hour is gone.
Our approach
FlowState runs locally on your Mac, watches frontmost-app + tab-title patterns (no content, ever), and matches them against your stated focus block. When you drift, it doesn't block — it nudges with a one-line check-in: "You opened Discord 3× this block. Is this on-topic?" If yes, it backs off. If you ignore the nudge twice, it auto-snoozes notifications and starts a 15-min recovery timer. The model is that of a respected mentor, not a parental control.
Where we are
Six weeks since the public beta. 240 active weekly users, 41 paying ($12/mo), 18% week-on-week growth on free → paid conversion. Median session length on focus blocks is up from 28 to 67 minutes among paying users, measured against their own baseline week 1. Two indie hackers (one of whom shipped Refraction.ai) and one repeat YC founder are using it daily and have been since week 3 — the cohort retention curve is finally flat past 30 days, which previous attempts at this product never hit.
Where we're going
We want the next generation of solo founders to have what only senior IC's at well-run companies have: a system that sees the day before they do, and protects the work that compounds. The endgame is a personal CoS layer that knows your goals, sees your behaviour, and flags drift before it costs you a release.
